During their three years with GGI, Nicholas served as a School-Wide Department Leader, helping lead important sustainability initiatives such as bringing recycling bins onto campus and organizing vegan bake sales. One of the most meaningful challenges he faced was the long process of gaining approval for recycling bins, which required around two years of back-and-forth discussion with school administrators. Through this experience, he developed communication and leadership skills while learning how to work through bureaucracy and persist toward meaningful change.

His time with GGI deepened his understanding of global sustainability issues and highlighted the importance of education in helping communities address those challenges. GGI also helped shape his academic direction. While his had originally been interested in engineering mainly as a way to create things, their experience with GGI shifted their focus toward designing solutions, both big and small, for global environmental problems.

One standout achievement was participating as a GGI leadership ambassador in the CDNIS GGC Conference in 2026, where GGI Hong Kong presented a workshop and Docathon video. This marked GGI Hong Kong’s first time participating in a major sustainability event outside of school, representing the club and sharing its story with a wider audience. The experience showed that the group’s years of work had real meaning and offered a glimpse of GGI’s full potential.

He is now studying Mechanical Engineering with a continued focus on environmental engineering and hope to work as an engineer. He also plans to stay connected to sustainability by joining the sustainability club at HKU.
