Kiki Sundar was involved with GGI in Hong Kong for three years, serving as the Community Development Head. In this role, she helped organize and lead community-focused initiatives such as beach cleanups, conferences, bake sales, and on-campus assemblies. Starting in Grade 10, she took on the responsibility of managing a team, developing community-oriented activities, communicating with school administration, and helping turn sustainability ideas into real events.

One of the most meaningful challenges Kiki faced during her time with GGI was balancing club leadership with academics. During her junior and senior years, she was involved in four clubs while also taking rigorous AP classes. At times, she felt stretched thin, but she grew by using organization and time-management strategies to stay on top of her responsibilities. She also learned how to delegate tasks to vice presidents and younger members, helping prepare others to take on future leadership roles.

GGI also had a major influence on Kiki’s personal values. Before joining, she had not strongly advocated for environmental change. Through GGI, she became more aware of how easy it is to overlook the environmental impact of everyday actions. This awareness led her to make more sustainable choices, such as carrying a reusable water bottle and making a conscious effort to recycle properly. GGI helped her become more self-aware and more intentional about making environmentally responsible decisions.

Her standout achievement was hosting GGI’s largest beach cleanup in collaboration with Kids4Kids, Restoring Rainbows, and Clean Shorelines. With over 70 students and 5 staff members participating, the event was a major success. At just 17, Kiki served as the main host, guiding students through games, activities, scavenger hunts, and art competitions that made the cleanup more engaging than a traditional service event. She also connected two organizations she cared about, GGI and Kids4Kids, helping create a collaboration that may continue in the future.

Kiki is now studying Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. While she has not yet formally joined sustainability initiatives at university, she is looking to get involved with PolyU’s sustainability clubs and organizations. She and Anna Leung are also considering the logistics of starting a GGI club at PolyU, continuing the impact of GGI beyond high school.
